The Mr Blobby spoof theme song "Mr Blobby", written by Paul Shaw and David Rogers, was released as a single and somewhat improbably hit #1 on the UK Singles Chart on December 11, 1993, replacing Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", which had been in the #1 spot for 7 weeks. A week later, "Babe" by Take That bumped it off #1, but only for a week. It returned to the #1 spot on the charts on Christmas Day and remained for another 2 weeks.[1]
"Mr Blobby" was voted the worst Christmas song ever in a 2002 poll conducted by HMV.[2]
A music video was created for the single. It spoofed several music videos such as "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer and ZZ Top's 3-man arm swing-and-point, featured in many of their videos.
The video featured celebrities such as Noel Edmonds, Carol Vorderman, Garth Crooks, and Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear as Mr Blobby's limo driver.[3]
